Repair of Original Victorian & Pine Floorboards

Many London properties have beautiful pine floors to restore or original Victorian pine floorboards needing restoration or other Victorian wooden floors, such as original parquet flooring. 

As part of our wooden floor sanding services, we often have to carry out some floorboard restoration and refurbishment. Please note that our floorboard restoration cost is priced as part of a whole job and included within our London floor sanding prices, and that we only carry out restoration of old wooden floorboards when we are also renovating the floor by sanding and often then sealing it again afterwards.

Floorboard scratch repair

When looking at restoring old floorboards under carpet, you often find that grit, trapped under the carpet, has scratched the floorboards over time, especially with pine floorboards. The last thing you want on your nice, exposed floorboards is to have scratches showing. This can happen over time with wear and tear, or through moving of furniture. It’s not uncommon for us to be called after workmen have been in the house carrying out other renovations or building work where scratches have then occurred due to tools or items being dropped or scraped along the floorboards.

How repairs are made:

Floorboard scratch repair is carried out using a three stage floor sanding process to remove the surface scratched area and through filling deep scratches before sanding.

As such, it is always advisable to leave the floor renovations until last when building or decorating work is taking place. In such circumstances, even if you’re considering repairs to your floorboards at the end of the properly refurbishment, it is suggested that you keep your floorboards covered to prevent paint, stain and further damage before the work commences.

In addition, when a floor has been restored, you will be advised to leave the varnish to set properly before moving furniture back in and this can also create scratches if done before the recommended time.

Water damaged floorboards

As part of wooden floorboard refurbishment, boards are often replaced or restitched by being removed and re-laid with other often reclaimed timber laid to match the boards as closely as possible. Restoring old wooden floorboards

It’s a great find for you to discover old wooden floorboards lurking under carpet or lino. These, often ‘hidden gems’ offer a really valuable asset for houses, as they can be sanded and stained or varnished and make a really modern smart looking addition to a room. Floorboard replacement and addition is necessary also where old concrete fire hearths are removed in a room, which leaves a gap in the floorboards.
It has to be noted that it is not always possible to get an exact match, but we used reclaimed wooden floorboards to get as close a match as we can do.
